Magnaplate TNS® Is a Window and Door Manufacturer’s Clear Choice To Prevent Sticky Buildup on Rollers

When customers purchase glass windows and doors, they expect them to be clean and blemish-free. Although window and door manufacturers strive to produce a perfect product every time, some materials used in assembly processes can create sticky buildup that undermines the quality of the finished products. Recently, a leading door- and glass-manufacturing automation specialist contacted us to stop the buildup threat to its rollers.
A Look Inside Glass Window and Door Assembly
In door and window fabrication, a large series of small rollers carry glass panels and frame pieces through various assembly steps. Adhesives and sealants are used to secure glass panels to frames, to seal gaps, or to prevent air links or moisture incursion. Not surprisingly, the sticky substances used as sealants and adhesives, along with gasket and glazing materials, come into contact with the rollers and leave behind sticky residues that quickly accumulate. On glass, for example, these gooey substances cause streaks and blemishes that cause product rejections. These issues lead to roller replacements, which waste both money and time.
According to our customer, the stuck-on materials had a tar- or glue-like effect on the rollers and required a surface treatment to prevent further issues. We coated the rollers with one of our TNS® coatings. Developed to extend the non-stick capabilities of other Magnaplate coatings, TNS prevents residues from adhering to rollers and other metal machine parts, which in turn minimizes cleaning delays and improves uptime in a wide range of applications. The TNS series also improves wear and corrosion resistance on coated parts. Additional features and benefits of TNS coatings include:
- Superior release properties.
- Eliminates sprays or other release agents.
- Customizable for smooth or rough surfaces.
- Resistance to scratching, chipping, flaking and rubbing off.
- Increased production speeds.
- FDA-compliant versions are available.
This window and door fabricator has reported that the TNS coating eliminated the sticking problem, the associated material buildup and equipment jams. As a result, they also significantly reduced the downtime previously needed for cleaning and replacing their rollers.
Keep Vital Equipment Rolling With TNS
At Magnaplate, we tailor TNS surface treatments by varying raw material components, coating thicknesses and finishes according to specific applications, substrates and operating conditions. With the right Magnaplate surface treatment, even the stickiest product will release from rollers and other metal parts so your equipment keeps rolling.
