Problem: The customer was responsible for the introduction of a new underwater failsafe safety valve following two years of R&D. Placed 300-500 ft below the ocean floor, a number of metal coatings were tested on the valves and the most common failure mode was galling produced by attempted rotation after metal to metal pressure had exceeded 30,000PSI. Solution: NEDOX was used to coat the steel ball valves, at General Magnaplate, which acted to prevent corrosion, galling or seizing. Nedox is a superior alternative to other common industry coatings such as nickel plating, electroless nickel, sulfamate nickel, co-dep electroless nickel (or EN), polymer impregnated (or infused) electroless nickel.
